CANPAD recognizes and represents the professional and social interests of physicians and dentists of Nigerian descent living in Canada and aims to contribute meaningfully to further advancement of the health sector in Canada and Nigeria
The CANPAD Foundation for Medical Education is a charitable organization established by the Canadian Association of Nigerian Physicians and Dentists (CANPAD). Our mission is to support the education of medical students of African descent in Canada through our annual bursary program.
Our Bursary Program:
The annual CANPAD bursary program was instituted in August 2008 with the aim of providing financial assistance to deserving medical students. Each year, we award two bursaries: one to a Canadian student of Nigerian descent and the other to a Canadian student of African descent (non-Nigerian). This year, each bursary will be $2500.
Our Mission:
As physicians and dentists, we recognize that our families are relatively privileged members of society. We may not face the same financial obstacles that other members of society have to contend with on a regular basis. Notably, our country of origin, Nigeria, is the most populous on the continent of Africa, with 1 in 4 people of African origin being Nigerian. Therefore, as a group, we have a social obligation to support our community when given the opportunity to do so.
Requests for applications will be sent out to members by the end of March. The qualification for the bursary is based on financial need and academic performance. The CANPAD bursary committee will review the applications and select the awardees by June.
We rely on the generosity of our members, government agencies, and the general public to fund our bursary program. Your donations help us provide financial assistance to medical students who require it. To support our cause, please consider making a donation today.
